A truely heartwarming tale...

Here's a truly heartwarming story about the bond formed between a little
5-year-old girl and some construction workers that will make you believe that
we all can make a difference when we give a child the gift of our time.

A young family moved into a house, next to a vacant lot. One day,
a construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot.

The young family's 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the
activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers.

Eventually the construction crew, all of them 'gems-in-the-rough,' more or
less, adopted her as a kind of project mascot. They chatted with her, let her
sit with them while they had coffee and lunch breaks, and gave her little job s
to do here and there to make her feel important.

At the end of the first week, they even presented her with a pay envelope
containing ten dollars. The little girl took this home to her mother who
suggested that she take her ten dollars 'pay' she'd received to the bank the
next day to start a savings account.

When the girl and her mom got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed and
asked the little girl how she had come by her very own pay check at such a
young age. The little girl proudly replied, 'I worked last week with a real
construction crew building the new house next door to us.'

'Oh my goodness gracious,' said the teller, 'and will you be working on the
house again this week, too?' The little girl replied, 'I will, if those
assholes at Lowe's ever deliver the fuckin' sheet rock...'

Kind of brings a tear to the eye - doesn't it?

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.

At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.

But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house."

The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?"

"That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them."

"For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this
beauty to grace the house."

Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.

You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

SO, to all of my crackpot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path!

And send this to any or all of your Cracked Pot friends. The happiest of people don't have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything that comes their way.

Too busy for a friend

Too Busy for a Friend...

One day a teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name.

Then she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down.

It took the remainder of the class period to finish their assignment, and as the students left the room, each one handed in the papers.

That Saturday, the teacher wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and listed what everyone else had said about that individual.

On Monday she gave each student his or her list. Before long, the entire class was smiling. "Really?" she heard whispered. "I never knew that I meant anything to anyone!" and, "I didn't know others liked me so much," were most of the comments.

No one ever mentioned those papers in class again. She never knew if they discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exercise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with themselves and one another. That group of students moved on.

Several years later, one of the students was killed in

VietNam and his teacher attended the funeral of that special student. She had never seen a serviceman in a military coffin before. He looked so handsome, so mature.

The church was packed with his friends. One by one those who loved him took a last walk by the coffin. The teacher was the last one to bless the coffin.

As she stood there, one of the soldiers who acted as pallbearer came up to her. "Were you Mark's math teacher?" he asked. She nodded: "yes." Then he said: "Mark talked about you a lot."

After the funeral, most of Mark's former classmates went together to a luncheon. Mark's mother and father were there, obviously waiting to speak with his teacher.

"We want to show you something," his father said, taking a wallet out of his pocket "They found this on Mark when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it."

Opening the billfold, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. The teacher knew without looking that the papers were the ones on which she had listed all the good things each of Mark's classmates had said about him.

"Thank you so much for doing that," Mark's mother said. "As you can see, Mark treasured it."

All of Mark's former classmates started to gather around. Charlie smiled rather sheepishly and said, "I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my desk at home."

Chuck's wife said, "Chuck asked me to put his in our wedding album."

"I have mine too," Marilyn said. "It's in my diary"

Then Vicki, another classmate, reached into her pocketbook, took out her wallet and showed her worn and frazzled list to the group. "I carry this with me at all times," Vicki said and without batting an eyelash, she continued: "I think we all saved our lists"

That's when the teacher finally sat down and cried. She cried for Mark and for all his friends who would never see him again.

The density of people in society is so thick that we forget that life will end one day. And we don't know when that one day will be.

So please, tell the people you love and care for, that they are special and important. Tell them, before it is too late.

And One Way To Accomplish This Is: Forward this message on. If you do not send it, you will have, once again passed up the wonderful opportunity to do something nice and beautiful.

f you've received this, it is because someone cares for you and it means there is probably at least someone for whom you care.

If you're "too busy" to take those few minutes right now to forward this message on, would this be the VERY first time you didn't do that little thing that would make a difference in your relationships?

The more people that you send this to, the better you'll be at reaching out to those you care about.

Remember, you reap what you sow. What you put into the lives of others comes back into your own.

May Your Day Be Blessed

So he got back yesterday morning and just went directly to work. Apparently it went pretty well. D usually does well in interviews. Apparently no matter how long it's been, the math never goes away and he got to talk alot of math and stats all day. He's feeling pretty confident that he did well. I guess we'll see if they like him enough to move us out there LOL!

I have to check out schools out there and see what residency reqirements are. I'm thinking i'll go back and get a BS in nursing in 6 months or a year. I was going to do it here, but if we're in Cali I'll probally have to wait a little longer. Not a big deal of course, it means a little more time home with the twins while they're young which is good. I should double check with URI about getting a transcript, i'm going to need one.

So D just got a call this afternoon for an interview on monday in San Francisco! It would be a hell of a move for us, but the job would pay SO much more. Also the biomedical industry is even better out in Cali then it is up here so it shouldn't take long for himto find job if D gets this one. We're not bad off now, but we could really be doing well if this goes through. Now to book his flight! W00t!
